The Tanzanian polls, a reality TV star and Halloween celebrations were the most trending topics in Kenya in October.

Mr Lamar Odom, 35, a former professional basketball player and reality TV star on the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” show was the most searched online following his admission to Desert View Hospital in Las Vegas.

The former Los Angeles Lakers player was rushed to the hospital after he was found unconscious in a brothel in Crystal, Nevada.

The Tanzanian elections were the second trending topic as Kenyans followed the campaigns through to the election on October 25, and the announcement of results thereafter.

Tanzania’s ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) candidate John Magufuli won the presidential election with 58 per cent of the votes cast. His closest challenger, Edward Lowassa, managed to garner 40 per cent of the votes.

Halloween, a celebration observed in a number of countries on 31 October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows’ Day, was the third trending topic in the country.

Google celebrated the day by displaying a doodle about Halloween, which encouraged Kenyans to search for more information about this annual event.

Other trending searches in October 2015 were Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers, The Lewa Marathon, Inooro TV, a 24-hour Kikuyu-language channel, and Imperial Bank after it was placed under receivership by the Central Bank of Kenya.
